Science & Technology Facilities Council: ICT Apprentice

If you are looking to begin a career within ICT, this could be just the start you are looking for. You will be working as part of the Digital Infrastructure Desktop Support and Service Desk team to install and maintain computers, hardware and software, whilst providing support to staff and users throughout the campus at Daresbury and across the UK.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills


  • Experience of PC-based computer systems and applications
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Products
  • Some experience of configuring Smartphones
  • Experience in using Microsoft application, programming language and web design
  • Qualification in a relevant IT field would be desirable, but not essential

Special Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to undertake occasional travel between sites
  • The role may require some manual handling of bulky and moderately heavy items
  • A flexible attitude to working hours and the work you will undertake along with a commitment to meeting customer needs
  • Understanding of the importance of IT security
  • Sufficient practical skills to do manual tasks such as assemble/dismantle racking, moving awkward / heavy objects and changing power supplies or fans in equipment
  • A willingness to learn and use new skills

  • Experience of successfully working in such an environment
  • An easy going temperament, well organised, self-motivated and able to work under pressure

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Level 4 (Grade C) or equivalent – including maths, English and Science

Annual wage: £13,769.00. Working week: 8.25am - 5.00pm Monday - Thursday and 8.25am - 4.20pm Friday (some earlier starts/late finish required) total hours per week: 37.00. Expected duration: 18 months
